The Hofstra women’s soccer came away with a tied final score for the second time this season, as they ended an away match against Monmouth University with a 1-1 draw on Thursday, Sept. 29. Dagny Run Petursdottir netted the lone goal for the Pride in the contest off of an assist from Krista Agostinello. Despite the low score, the two sides combined for 23 total shots in the game, with Hofstra having a 12-11 majority. Ellen Halseth and Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir each led Hofstra with four total shots. Monmouth’s Rachel Ludwick had four shots of her own for the Hawks.
The high shot total put both goalies to work early in the contest. Monmouth’s Jesi Rossman tested the Pride’s Skylar Kuzmich with the first shot of the match, but it sailed just wide of the net.
Before the end of the first half, Monmouth got a few more shots off, none of which required much effort from Kuzmich to handle.
It wasn’t until midway through the second half when Petursdottir broke the stalemate and gave Hofstra a 1-0 lead. That didn’t last long, though, as less than 10 minutes later, Monmouth answered with a goal of its own when forward Summer Reimet put home her fourth goal of the year off an assist from Kayla Reed.
From that point forward, both teams remained strong defensively, giving up few shots and trading possessions back and forth. Monmouth’s Cassandra Coster made 3 saves in the second half that kept the Hawks in the game. The Pride had a few shot attempts, but none of them hit the mark. Monmouth picked up its first tie of the year and is now 8-2-1 in their last ten matches. They currently occupy fourth place in the Colonial Athletic Association standings. The Pride currently hold a record of 6-4-2 following the tie and sit in sixth place in the standings.
The Pride will now play their second of four straight road games as they head to Boston, Massachusetts, on Sunday, Oct. 2, to face off against another conference rival in Northeastern University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
