RICHMOND, VA– Forgive Charles Jenkins if he repeats himself.

Hofstra’s senior guard was named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year for the second straight year at Thursday night’s CAA Awards Banquet. Jenkins earned 41 of a possible 46 votes from the league’s coaches, sports information directors and media.

Along with being named conference Player of the Year, Jenkins was also honored as a member of the conference’s All-Academic second team. Jenkins earned his Player of the Year award after averaging 23.2 points per game, fourth in the nation (best in the CAA) and 4.8 assists per game, also tops in the CAA.

In his acceptance speech Jenkins asked all of his teammates to rise and thanked them for everything they have done for him.

“I get these accolades all the time and everybody’s talking Charles Jenkins when they talk about Hofstra,” Jenkins said, “but what they tend to forget is that I’m on a basketball team and these are the guys that deal with me every day. They deal with me when I’m at my worst and they deal with me at my best so it’s only right for me to commend them for all the success and all the help that they’ve given me throughout my career.”

Jenkins’ season, which culminated in the CAA Player of the Year Award, included him passing former teammate Antoine Agudio as Hofstra’s all-time scoring leader and saw his jersey retired in his final home game.

Hofstra fans can breathe easy if they thought Jenkins was content with just winning one award at this CAA Tournament.

“Don’t worry,” Jenkins said, “When Saturday comes, you wouldn’t know anything about these awards. They’re going to be locked away and it’s going to be game time.”

Other members of the Pride were honored as well. Senior guard Brad Kelleher was named to the All-Academic first team and Matt Grogan was named All-Academic Honorable Mention. Senior forward Greg Washington was named to the All-Defensive team for the third straight year.
