Ladies and gentleman beware, it’s officially cuffing season.
For those who don’t know the term “cuffing,” it means when a person finds themself alone during the holiday season and decides they want to have a partner until the spring.
If you need to go by an official authority, Urban Dictionary says:
“During the fall and winter months, people who would normally rather be single or promiscuous find themselves along with the rest of the world desiring to be “cuffed” or tied down by a serious relationship. The cold weather and prolonged indoor activity causes singles to become lonely and desperate to be cuffed.”
If you find yourself all alone in your room listening to Drake and eating Thanksgiving leftovers while your finger is slowly and regrettably about to press the dial button to call up your ex, stop right there. Don’t let yourself become caught up with the anxiety of finding someone to be with.
Don’t get me wrong, cuffing season isn’t always necessarily a bad thing. Some people who pick and choose their snuggle buddy for the season ultimately end up falling for them. If you actually like the person, it’s okay to move forward and make it work. I’m not saying finding someone around the holiday season is ridiculous, I simply believe that you should settle down with someone who is worth it and not just worthy for the season.
Don’t get caught up with thinking you need to find love, because remember you always have your friends. Grab a glass of wine, a huge bucket of ice cream and watch “The Fault in Our Stars” and hysterically cry with your friends. It works.
