The Humans of Hofstra – October 25, 2016

Gillian Pitzer: I am incredibly interested in art. Sometimes I really wish that I came to school for art. But I am minoring in fine arts right now and that’s pretty cool. I am also the design director for the Nonsense Humor magazine. I do the layout for the magazine. Basically for about a week to two weeks of my life, I am focused on what pictures should go where and what font should this be. It’s so worth it; I am surrounded by so many creative people all of the time. I am also doing a concert outside my garage right now, thanks to my roommate Heather. That’s going to be really cool! We also have open mic nights a lot. I play the ukulele. I do that thing where I am the singer/artist that gives herself a band name just because. I’m proud to be surrounded by some of the most creative people in the Hofstra community.
Gioia Slavenburg: This is my first year here at Hofstra, but I am going to finish my studies back home. I am from the actual Amsterdam, Netherlands. Technically I am in my third year. I am an exchange student so I am only here for one semester. I am majoring in English. Since I wanted to major in English, I wanted to come to an English speaking country. I also wanted to be close to New York. I really like to dance. I dance hip-hop and street dance. I did a lot of dancing back home. When I was little, dancing was always a part of my family. My family was very Caribbean centered so we had a lot of music and dancing.

Aleksandra Radeva: Coming to America from Bulgaria was not really a huge shock to me since I was already used to the American people; I didn’t experience the culture shock as much as other international students do. I really like traveling. I am very passionate about the idea that you can explore new places, find interesting things and meet interesting people. My favorite place that I have traveled to would probably be Finland. I have been to the northern part and the people there are so nice and different. One place that I really want to travel to is Moscow. I have never been to Russia before so it would definitely be an amazing experience. I speak Russian and have a lot of friends who live there. I speak five languages: Bulgarian, English, Russian, French and German. I wanted to learn all of these languages because I was hoping that I could have a career in international studies and knowing multiple languages would be a good skill for such a career. I enjoy learning languages in my free time apart from my studies.
