The Student Government Association had a short, yet efficient, meeting Tuesday night. Rachel Kugelmass, a sophomore, was elected to the Senate after giving an enthusiastic speech. She is an Elementary Education and Speech Communication major. Kugelmass plans to be a member of the Spirit Committee.
The appropriations committee allocated a total of $4,003.90 this week, according to Senator Yeyoung Lee.
The Hofstra Association of Photographic Artists was passed as an SGA Club, despite there being no members of the club present at Tuesday night’s Senate meeting.
Senator Cody Heintz proposed a resolution asking that shipping materials be available in the lower-level of the bookstore. Heintz said that he felt students should not have to wait in the long line that is usually outside the Post Office just to pick up envelopes, boxes, and other shipping supplies.
Chairman Luke Miedreich asked who would be responsible for watching these supplies, to which Heintz replied that the supplies should be kept behind the online-order pickup counter. “Most of the year,” Heintz said, “there is no line at that counter.” The Senate passed this resolution.
President Sean Hutchinson reminded all those in attendance about the Take Back the Night Ball. The Ball, which has been postponed to next Wednesday, February 17 due to the snow day, is to raise awareness about Human Trafficking.
On Wednesday, February 24, there will be a Club Congress at 6:30pm in the Student Center Theater, according to Comptroller Brian Marquis. This Club Congress will be mandatory for any SGA Club that wants a budget for next fall.
The next SGA Senate meeting will be Tuesday, February 23.
