In recent days, students have begun to notice that they are now being given receipts with meals that they’ve purchased in the Student Center Café.
The reasoning for the receipts, according to a Lackmann manager who spoke on the condition of anonymity, is to duly combat stealing and prevent double charging.
The manager said that students often walk back and forth from the dining areas in front and behind the café. Receipts would serve as a record for those students and keep them from getting charged twice for their meals. Receipts would also serve as proof that the students actually bought their meals.
While receipts are given out at Kate & Willy’s, the only dining concession in the Student Center that had previously used the receipt system was the new California Pizza Kitchen, which is already notorious for their long lines.
Students were eager to voice their opposition to the new receipt program. “I think the receipt thing is pointless because it holds the lines up,” said freshman Daniel Jacas. “They should just cut it out.”
“If you have every meal at Hofstra every day, you just have a bunch of receipts coming out of your pockets at the end of the day. I don’t know if they have any personal information on them, but that would suck because they just end up on the ground,” said junior Matthew Bleistern.
Matt Salomon doesn’t like the program because he feels it goes against the University’s green policies. “I’m really against it because Hofstra is trying to go green and now they’re handing out these receipts and its totally going against what they’re standing for and I think they’re all horrible sinners,” he said.
